Barnardos Cork Shop Calls for Local Support for Reuse Month

25th Sept 2023: Barnardos is encouraging the people of Cork to donate their preloved and reusable items to Barnardos Charity shop this October. Barnardos is actively participating in Reuse month in October. The children’s charity wants people to bring their donations into their local Barnardos shop on 99 North Main Street, Cork.

Colette Miller, Barnardos Retail Operations and Development Manager said: “October is National Reuse Month and to celebrate this, we want to encourage people to bring their preloved textiles into our Cork shop. Not only will the donations help promote sustainability and create a positive impact on the environment, it helps to support the vulnerable families and children we work with across the country.”

Last year, Barnardos work impacted the lives of 20,838 children and families across Ireland as the children’s charity expanded its reach into homes, schools and communities across the country to try and meet the ever-growing demands for our services.

Barnardos charity shops directly promote sustainability by offering reusable products for sale to the general public. Textile is the most successful product for resale in the shops. In addition to this activity, Barnardos’ shops prevented 62.84 tonnes of textile and footwear from going straight into landfill by gathering, sorting, processing and diverting it from the waste stream.

Over 650 children and families are supported by Barnardos annually in Cork. Services like Early Years Services and Family Support Services are available in Knocknaheeny, Mahon, Fermoy, Mitchelstown and Youghal.

Barnardos helps transform children’s lives through their services, by supporting parents and by challenging society where it fails children. Barnardos works in over 40 projects across the country and was established in Ireland in 1962. Because childhood lasts a lifetime.
