SUMMARY:6-week Therapeutic Support Course for Birth Mothers\, September –
  October 2026- Dublin
DESCRIPTION:Was your son or daughter placed for adoption in the past?\nWoul
 d it help to talk about it?\n\nBarnardos Birth History Service will be run
 ning a 6-week therapeutic course for women whose children have been adopte
 d.\n\nThe course is an opportunity to talk about experiences in the past a
 nd perhaps to prepare for contact with a now adult son or daughter.\n\nSom
 e women may have met their adopted child/adult already and would like supp
 ort around the outcome of the meeting and the ongoing contact or relations
 hip\, and how this may have affected them and other family members.\n\nMot
 hers who are considering joining the Contact Preference Register may find 
 the meetings very helpful in navigating the challenges in tracing. Other m
 others avail of the space to process their decision not to pursue a reunio
 n.\n\nMany women have found these meetings to be of invaluable assistance 
 in moving forward with their lives.\n\nThe meetings are run as a course ov
 er six sessions. The service is independent and completely confidential. T
 here is no charge to attend the course.\n\nSome of the topics covered in t
 he courses are:\n1.  Parting with a child for adoption\n2. How this exper
 ience has affected the mother’s life\n3. Seeking information about your 
 child\n4. How adoption affects others e.g. adopted people\, adoptive paren
 ts\n5. Searching for your son/daughter - what should you expect?\n6. What 
 happens after reunion?\n\nFollow up: We run on-going support groups for bi
 rthmothers in Cork\, Galway\, Dublin and Online throughout the year.Please
