Barnardos Post-Adoption Service Cork invites adopted adolescents ages 14-17 years who have an interest in creative arts to attend our therapeutic art group. This will be a space where teens interested in creative arts to attend our therapeutic art group. We named it A.R.T. group standing for Artistic Random Things to capture the fun and opportunities for exploration through art the group will provide! This will be a space where teens interested in creative expression can access art materials in a very different way, unique to them, with an exploration and expression at the forefront whilst connecting with other adopted teenagers.
There is absolutely no experience in art required to participate, simply an openness to making some art (e.g. drawing, painting, clay, collage) whilst meeting others. During ART group we will provide a safe, therapeutic, fun, and supportive space for participants to tap into their own unique creative process and express themselves through a range of creative mediums. This will allow participants to explore their inner world, their identity, gain insight into their emotions and enhance their self-awareness. Many opportunities for learning and practicing self-regulating and grounding techniques will also be provided. During the four weeks, participants will also have opportunities to create pieces together as a group
The group will run for four consecutive weeks. Please note that a commitment to attending all four weeks is required and this is very important for the benefit of all participants.
