The Barnardos Post-Adoption Service invites adoptive parents of teenagers (ages 13-18) to our new online workshop: Understanding Attachment in Adopted Teenagers: Connecting with Your Teen.
The workshop will look at the attachment approach to parenting an adopted child in the adolescent years. It looks at how taking a relationships-based approach rather than a behaviour-modification approach to parenting can strengthen your relationship with your teenager.
The workshop will include an overview of attachment theory in the context of adoption, input on how to identify your teen’s attachment strategies, and insight into ways of connecting with your teen, including through play.
The workshop will be interactive and an opportunity for parents to meet with other adoptive parents in a safe and structured way. There will be opportunities for group discussion and sharing and / or simply listening to others. Early booking is recommended.
