Programme aims: | The Children’s Parenting Programme aims to help parents not only solve discipline and other childhood problems, but also for parents to develop closer and more satisfying relationships with their children. This programme targets the needs of primary school children aged 6-11 years. |

Resources used: | Two DVDs which contain 2.5 hours of footage containing over eighty real scenes of family interactions, which are backed up by comments by professionals, parents and children. A comprehensive facilitators manual that contains the full text of the DVDs, extensive background information, a full guide on how to prepare and run each session of the course, detailed group exercises, along with handouts and homework assignments for participants. Authors: The material was written and developed by Dr. John Sharry (Social Worker and Psychotherapist) & Professor Carol Fitzpatrick (Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist). The Parents Plus Programmes have been developed in partnership with parents and children who have attended the courses and in consultation with the wider multi-disciplinary professional team at the Mater Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. |
