Children in Finglas to receive reading boost thanks to CJK & Barnardos

7 July. Children across Finglas will receive extra help learning to read thanks to a generous donation of €45,000 from CJK to Barnardos. The announcement was made today at the Finglas Family Resource Centre for the launch of the three-year partnership between leading M&E contractor CJK and children’s charity Barnardos. Headquartered in Finglas, CJK is committed to supporting initiatives that make a positive difference to the local community through its Change for Good programme. The donation will be used for the Wizards of Words programme which supports around 100 children in 11 schools in Finglas.

In the Wizards of Words programme, dedicated volunteers aged 55 and above, are trained by Barnardos staff to assist children in DEIS schools who need a little extra help with their reading. These volunteer Wizards are then paired with a child and meet with them two or three times a week during school hours, to practice their reading. The child benefits from having one-on-one care and attention and the volunteers really love being able to share their time, bringing generations together to help each other.
